This article explains how to change the port that the Windows Data Server is using.

Problem:

How do I change the port that the Windows Data Server is using?

Resolution:

  1. On your Data Server system, stop the Data Server. Do this from the Windows Control Panel's Services utility, available under Administrative Tools.
  2. At a command prompt, enter regedt32 to start the registry editor.
  3. Navigate to HKLM\\Software\\ODBC\\ODBC.INI\\SimbaServer\\SvrPort.
  4. Change the default port number,1583, to either 1584 or some other port number that you know is not in use.
  5. Restart the Data Server.
  6. Do one of the following:
    • If your system has the Database Administrator version of the Data Client installed:
      1. Start the Data Client.
      2. Click the entry for the Data Server system; then click Modify.
      3. Change the port number to the same number you specified in the registry in step 4 above; then click OK.
    • If your system does not have the Database Administrator version of the Data Client installed, uninstall the Data Client and then reinstall it.
  7. Try connecting from a Data Client system.
