Problem
What ODBC connection should be used when the Relativity client is on the same machine as the Relativity server?
Resolution
The ODBC Data server connection should never be used by client applications even if they are on the same machine as the Data server. The Data Server connection is just a way to enable the data client to be able to connect to the Data server or for the administrator to work with the server.
Clients should never connect directly to the Data Server ODBC data source. A client ODBC data source must be configured on the server and the clients then use the Relativity client ODBC data source.
To configure the Relativity client ODBC DSN, you perform the following steps:
-
Create the Data Server ODBC data source as normal, but give it a name to indicate that it not to be used eg:
-
Then when creating the Data client data source, the current machine is added to the list of servers.
-
Once you have created a connection to the local server, this can be used. In my example the local server is called nwb-sline2012.
-
The client application can now connect to the data source called UseMe rather than SrvOnly.
