Hi all, I have tried to add a group of users which allow them to access by password and it works well.

However, when I want to remove group of users and reset back to default privilege which doesn't required username and password, I able to remove password but it doesn't allow the owner name to be set back to blank. Button OK is disabled if the owner name field is blank.

Please help on this. Thank you all.

While there is a dialog to transfer catalog ownership from one group to another, I do not think that dialog can remove ownership.

However, the question that your request brings up is, "Why do you want the catalog to have no owner?" Catalog ownership is the most basic level of security for the database's metadata. It seems to me that you are trying to accomplish something, and you believe that removing ownership is the means to accomplish the goal.

Please tell us what you are trying to accomplish by removing catalog ownership.

I agree with Tom, the software is not designed to remove the catalog ownership. You might, just might, be able to create a second catalog and use the "Import from Another Relativity Data Source" wizard on the Tools menu, to copy everything except the user definitions, but that's the only advice that I can give you.

Currently the project we working on are still in development stage. Previously we set catalog owner is for demonstration purpose by showing user the steps. Reason we want to remove owner is we want to access catalog straightaway which created as default without inserting username or password.

Follow Mike Schultz suggestion. Create a new catalog, without ownership. Then, use the "Import from Another Relativity Datasource" dialog to migrate the file and table definitions to the new catalog. Then change the datasource to point to the new catalog.

Note also that you can place the username and the password in the connection string. This will obviate the need to enter these in many applications. However, for the relativity Designer, for an owned catalog, the connection will prompt for user name and password.

However, a suggestion. While it may be slightly inconvenient to enter user name and password during development, I strongly urge you to use user groups to control access to application data, and to protect the metadata from accidental corruption.

Hi Ching,

As you may know, when using Relativity in production it will appear a login window when connecting, having security or not. If you have, the user will need to enter their credentials and if not just press enter to continue.

So, something you can do, to solve both issues (having security in the catalog, and avoiding the login at deployment), is to use the user and password in the connection string, as Tom mentioned, or to edit the file data source (name.dsn) to add the user and password there.

In Windows, you will normaly find the DSN files under the user´s documents folder (c:\\users\\username\\documents), with the format dsnname.dsn. These are text files that can be edited, so edit the DSN file you have setup for Relativity, it should look something like this :

[ODBC]
DSN=erp

In my example above the DSN is named "erp". (erp.dsn) Change it to this:

[ODBC]
DSN=erp
UID=username
PWD=password

The UID (User ID) and PWD (Password) can be set to anything you like. If you haven´t set security on the catalog, Relativity will ignore them, and if you have, the user will not be asked to enter the credentials.

Regards,
