Old Cobol objects

RM/COBOL Runtime – Version 7.00.03 for 32bit Windows (9x/Me/NT/TS/2K).

This is old Cobol and the user would like to move to 64bit Windows. Can a run-time be purchased? Would the source code have to be recompiled? (I am afraid that over the past 20 years some source/object issues would occur). Can the existing objects run in a 64bit environment?

Any help would be appreciated.

Michael

Short answer: you probably can run this code using a current runtime on 64-bit windows, without recompiling. But there may be more details that will dictate this. I can put you in touch with the sales rep who handles the RM/Cobol products and he'll probably schedule a call with an engineer to dig further. Are you in North America or elswhere?

Please send me your contact info (to chuck.edgin@microfocus.com) and I'll put you in touch with the right people.

Estimates:

Version 7.0 does not run on 64 bit.
From version 7.5 runs without problems.
No need to recompile the programs, programs just objects.
I recommend you buy the latest version of RM / Cobol 12.06.

LIDERSYSTEM S.A.

So purchasing version 7.5 (or newer) runtime without compiling will allow the old objects to run in 64 bit?

thx

Dear Michael:

If applications are running in RM / COBOL version 7 only acquire after the 7.5 and will run without problem on 64 bit.

The only change that can happen is that if for some reason an application makes an Open any file that was created with the new format including indexed arhive.

This means that if you go back to version 7 may not have access to new structures of files created by newer versions.

With pleasure we are here to help.
