We have a customer that does not have an LPT1 port on their PC.  They have connected their receipt printer to the USB port on the PC, and our program will not print to the receipt printer because it is looking for the printer to be attached to LPT1.

Is there a way in RM COBOL to tell the computer to look at the USB port (like PRINTER1 tells the computer to look at LPT1)

(I could use PRINTER? but the customer has instisted that they do not want to have to select the printer EVERY TIME they use the cash register).

Hi,

Use Define-Device Configuration Record

Define-Device Device=Invoiceprintername Escape-Sequences=Yes Path=",Lpt1,,Lucida Console, 10"

But I can't print to LPT1 - LPT1 does not exist on the customer's PC. I need to define it to print to the USB port....

Just change LPT1 for Default and set you ticket printer to default printer beforehand .

Define-Device Device=Ticketprinter Escape-Sequences=Yes Path=",Default,,Lucida Console, 10"

If you use PRINTER? the customer has selected the printer EVERY TIME he uses the PRINTER.

If you use PRINTER, the program always prints on the printer by default.

Right, but the customer doesn't want to have to select the printer every single time they run the cash register.
