Problem uninstalling a Relativity Data Server on Windows

Hi,

Trying to uninstall Relativity Data Server to install it in a new PC, we receive an Error 0x2 received from Liant License Library. Test is The system cannot find the file specified. Error encountered in module code\\licmsinf.c at line 1683. Error comment is openByteStream failed on C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Liant\\Relativityv12\\DServer.def
 
And after that: License Management Error Error 0x2: The system cannot find the file specified. UninstallLicenses failed

    First question: Does C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Liant\\Relativityv12\\DServer.def actually exist? It is very important to the uninstall process.

    I have this problem too. When I filed a support ticket with Microfocus I was told that it must be a Microsoft installer/uninstaller problem and to contact MS for assistance. I still don't know how a missing Microfocus .def file is a Microsoft issue. It apparently is a flaw in the product if it is occurring at multiple installations.

    Not, DServer.def is not there.
    Is there a way to uninstall it by removing the files and some entry into the registry?

    The "DServer.def" file is a simple text file, which, contains information about the installed product.  This information is not specific to a particular installation, however, so you can use one from any other version 12 Data Server installation.

     

    Below is a link to download the "DServer.def" file from my installation directory:

     

    https://amerftp.microfocus.com/183761/9a424ba2f548e5b91b6d4b683dafd67c/supportline_download/RelativityDataServer/DServer.def

     

    You should be able to copy this file into your installation directory(C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Liant\\Relativityv12) to replace the missing one.

     

    **As a note, you do not have to uninstall the Relativity Data Server from a machine before it can be installed on a new system.  Therefore, please let me know if you have any issues installing the Relativity Data Server on the new system.

    Hi Steve,

    I copied your DServer.def file into my system and then tried to uninstall the Data Server but now I receive an Error -2147024809 received from Operating System. Text is: The parameter is incorrect. Error encountered in module code\\msifwfn.c at line 1256. Error comment is: UnauthorizeProgramInProfile failed: Profile=2
    And then a Firewall Management Error 0x80070057 The parameter is incorrect. RemoveExceptions failed

    To close up the second part of this discussion, where the uninstall was failing with "the parameter is incorrect", please see https://community.rocketsoftware.com/discussion/relativity-server-uninstall-failed-on-liantuninstallfirewallexceptions#bmbf36aac6-3740-4e54-a760-19044f57511c . The "parameter is incorrect" error was caused by a breaking change in the Windows 10 Firewall API -- broken either by a Windows 10 update, although it's possible that the Symantec Firewall introduced this issue as we only encountered it on one particular system that had Symantec/Norton installed. To work around this, we made a change in the Data Server installer for version 12.16, and a customer has confirmed that using 12.16 to uninstall 12.15 allows the uninstall to finish. Later versions should also work.
