The RM file system is invoked using the same mechanism as the ACUCOBOL's Vision file system. The ACUFH file handler uses a configuration file where you can specify that you want to use the RM file system instead of the the Vision file system.

Setting up the ACUFH file handler in Visual COBOL is described in this thread (look for a post by me dated 26-Mar-2011). The only extra step is that the configuration file (referenced by the environment variable A_CONFIG), should contain this line: DEFAULT_FILESYSTEM RMFM.

This is covered in the Visual COBOL documentation as well, which you can access online here. Follow this path through the docs:

Micro Focus Developer -> Micro Focus Visual COBOL for Visual Studio -> Programming -> Compatibility with RM/COBOL -> RM/COBOL File Handler
