Problem

Under Unix, the traditional location of the license.vlt is the same directory as the product is installed, but where is the file found on Windows?

Resolution

The license.vlt is the file that holds all the license information for a particular RM product. Without the license.vlt file, the RM product will not run.

The simplest way to find the file is to use the suptool1 utility that is installed in the SupportTools directory under the relevant product directory.

Assuming that the RM Cobol development system has been installed into the default location, the command line to use is:

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Liant\\RMCOBOLv12\\SupportTool\\suptool1 productview

The first line of the display will show the location of the license.vlt. For example the following could be displayed:

Report for vault file 'C:\\ProgramData\\Liant\\RMCOBOLv12\\license.vlt'

Starting with the release of Windows Vista, The default location changed from the product installation directory to:

C:\\ProgramData\\Liant\\<Product>

Note: moving the license.vlt from its current directory could mean that the license will not be found and the product will not run.
