I have installed BDT 4.5.0 on my Windows 10 laptop. I'm connecting to UV 11.3.4 on RHEL 8.8. I get errors trying to connect.

So the question is: Do I have to give the unirpc process access to write to my VOC file? We just installed 11.3.4 on our server. What updates are needed? What sequential file failed to open (guessing it was a log file of some sort). If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated.

Jon,

Does the user you are using to connect to in BDT have write permissions to the account you are trying to access.

Thanks,

Jonathan,

I have write access to my VOC file in my development account. I do not have write access to the UV account VOC file.

I've tried with the default UV account and my personal development account. I get a different error with my development account.

Jon,

To be more precise it maybe the UV account itself that you need write permissions to because by default that is where the BDT will try to connect to. If you click on the Advanced Tab of the U2 Server Definition, you will see the Login Account for the uvcs service, so I suspect that is what you write permissions to. You can specify a different account for the service to login to.

Jon,

Could you try setting the login account to HS.SALES and see if that works for you.

Thanks,

The weird thing is, I cancel the login portion and I can see all of the accounts. I can open my development account. I can see the files and open a dictionary. I'm also able to see the cataloged programs and select one and open the source code and see it.

The compile, basic and debug are not working. I check to see that the unirpc process is running. Do I need to do something with uvcs?

I get different error with HS.SALES. I get a popup box explaining it will Update server programs. I click on OK and get a server update failure. Again with the write to VOC, Unable to create DIR pointer 'XferToU2HomeBP.O'

Jon,

The programs it is trying to update (which are normally listed as about to be updated)  are in the BP.O file in the UV account. It looks like for the first time of opening up of BDT you'll need to have to write permissions to the UV VOC, you would see the same problem if you are using the latest version of the Extensible Administration Tool (XADMIN) tool (and others). This is down to the fact that UniVerse ( and UniData) don't have those programs updated in line with the tools with each UV or UD release. The tools then find the older version of the programs and force an update of them, hence the message about updating the server side programs.

One workaround for you would be to update the programs and catalog them manually but that would require that you need to access the UV account and have write permissions to BP.O in the UV account. So it may be simpler just to get write permissions to the UV account (or login with a user that does) for the first time of using the tool.

The issue is resolved. I had someone with write permission to the UV VOC file bring up BDT and it was successfully updated.

Thanks to all for your help in this matter.
