I am on Universe.

I get the following message when I try to delete a file.

"unable to unlink the operationg ssytem file" then it lists the file name.

Then it follows with "DELETE failure".

What does this mean and what can be done about it?

Hi Konson,

Are you able to provide a little more detail? Which version of UniVerse are you running and on which operating system?

Is the failure happening when issuing a DELETE.FILE command? Or attempting to DELETE a record in folder/directory type file?

Any additional information you can provide will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Neil

The file is opened by some user who is either gone or currently tied up with another user.

Konson,

Like suggested, it sounds like someone has the file open, which is preventing the deletion.

On UNIX/Linux, you can use the fuser command to see who has the file open, and on Windows you can use Systinternals program 'handle'.

Hi Neil,

I don't know what version of UIVERSE we were running, but the problem resolved itself after we upgraded to version 11.3.

We are on Windows 10 server.

The error was happening when using the DELETE.FILE command in a program and at TCL DELETE a record in a folder/directory.

Thank you for answering.

Hi Konson,

Thanks for the update.  I suspect the issue was caused by another user having the file open as noted in another post.

In any case, happy to see that the problem has been resolved.

Thanks,

Neil
