Hi All,
I'm trying to get an EDA setup for one of the files in an account.
However, whenever I try to open the dictionary in the EDA, it freezes and then crashes after 10 or so minutes.
I've upped the memory allocation to the eclipse.ini to 4G as before it would give me a HEAP error.
I'm not sure what else to do to troubleshoot this.
I'm using the latest version of the DBTools package.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,
Start by trying a small simple by taking a copy of one of the example files (STATES?) in XDEMO - does this work? If so, then the toiols and underlying mechanism,s all work
Repeat the above in the application account youa re using - does that work? If so then it rules out an account environmant issue. If not, the "UPDATE.ACCOUNT" in UniVerse or "updatevoc -o" in UniData and try again.
If all works so far, take a long hard look at trhe file dictionary - for EDA mapping it needs to be spot-on, including data types associations for multi-values and multi-subvalues.
If all else fails, turn on UniObjects debugging (this should be in the Knowledge and/or documentation). Look at the log files.
A useful helper can be to use the command-line tools for a migration rather than the GUI interface, You get more useful diagnsotocs you can see there.

Hi John,
I mean the Eclipse environment freezes before I even do the EDA mapping. When I'm looking at the dictionary in the base Files it freezes.

Mark,
Do any of the U2DBTools work on this system? Try connecting with XAdmin - making sure the user credentials used are those of a local machine administrator.
Also database version and platform?
Using the comand line utilities rather than the GUI tool may give you more specific information as to a failure.

It is not normal to open a dictionary file to cause EDA crash. You might turn on the UniObjects server log to see which UO server function causes the issue. Is it possible to set the wrong dictionary file in the VOC file?

Yes, just not every File. The file I was trying to configure, has thousands of fields and crashes whenever I load the dictionary.

Mark,
You might want to check that file dictionary for items that are either invalid or are not dictionary at all - i.e. screen definitions, report definitions, etc. If so and you do not wish to weed it down, then create a NEW dictionary using thev same data file and only populate with the (valid) dictionary entries needed. Noting that some 4GLs use the dictionary of a file to hold file-related metadata,
I've seen program object in dictionaries before now so anything os possible.
Regards.
