for those using unidata, what do you'll call the prompt you know where you can type in commands like LIST VOC, etc .....

TCL or "the colon prompt"

for example, in uv I would say go to TCL and select VOC with the type being F

in unidata would I say go to "the colon prompt"  and select VOC  with the type being F

or do most use TCL, i keep hearing "colon prompt" and it just seems "wierd" to me

I know its a stupid question but I am just curious as to what professional (which you'll are) say/use

thanks

Strictly in UniData it is called ECL ... lots of people say TCL although it has never offically called TCL in UniData, it's ECL. If you say TCL people will understand though.

Yes, it's called a lot of different things - just as the syntax of the different pick flavors have different names. I remember referring to 'English' commands as the ad hoc tool. And I think of the 'colon prompt' as picks 'command line' processor.

I am most familiar with the phrase, and use, TCL - but it stood for Terminal Control Language in my mind.
