We are being tasked with moving our development and testing accounts off our primary Linux box and putting them on two other Linux boxes.  The problem is we have a number of global files that are shared by all accounts.

Can UniData be configured on box A to read and write to box B and or C?

Can UniData be configured on box A to run programs on box B?

What are the issues to expect?

Where can I read about how to do this?

Thanks

Hi John,

UniData does provide a facility called NFA (Network File Access) that allows UniData on Box A to read and write to Box B or Box C but only from UniBasic. See the 'UniData Developing OFS/NFA Applications' manual. The docs are available from Rocket Software Documentation

UniData itself cannot be configured on Box A to run programs on Box B, you would have to write own routines to do this  (various approaches to this, I would use some sort of Socket Solution).

You could use network file mounts instead of NFA, the downside is that there would be no concurrency control between the machines, so the risk of file corruption would be high.

Jonathan,

Thanks for the fast reply and the info. I have downloaded the PDF as you suggested and have been studying. I may have further questions.
