If you loaded the Trial version over a prior installation it will not succeed as the Trial version cannot be upgraded (unlike the commercial version). It is instead necessary to de-install / remove any prior Trial version - and on Windows I usually recommend a precautionary reboot afterwards. Once done then a new version can be installed as a clean installation.
For this reason I do not recommend storing any of your own files and data in the 'demo' and 'XDEMO' accounts, but instead create your own accounts separately in a different directory path. Please make sure any and all local data you wish to retain is backed up and secure as you do not want to delete it along with any prior UniData installation.

Try stopping the UniVerse Resource Service and UniVerse Telnet Service and see if that makes a difference. The Telnet services tend to clask on ports 23 and 992 (secure telnet). If this fixes it then permanently change the telnet ports of one of the databases (XAdmin can do this).

We are running the final QA tests on the new 8.2.4 personal edition of UniData, they will have the expiry date of April 2024. Once the tests have succesfully completed they will be replace the current expired versions, the personal editions of both UV and UD have hard coded expiry dates.

As it is hard coded we have to do a new build of UniData and post the new build for download. As per my previous note we are running the final tests on the new PE version of 8.2.4 with a new expiry date of April 2024. Until we've posted the new build the only way to work around it, is to put your system date back before the expiry date.

I'm not sure how often you release the trial versions, but let's say it is every 18 months. And then let's add a 3-month tolerance to that in case you are slow getting the next version out (as would appear to be the case at the moment).
When the user installs the trial version, the licence expiry date gets calculated as the install date + periodicity + tolerance - so in this example, it would be install date + 21 months. (And then you probably want to limit that to a maximum of say release date + 30 months).
That strategy would help avoid the current situation where the available trial versions have expired before installation. And it would also avoid the situation where a user installs a valid trial licence, and then have it expire in just 1 or 3 months. That is just going to annoy people.
If you use the variable expiry date outlined above, and someone installs a trial version just a month before the next version is released (i.e. it is 17 months old), then their expiry date should be 13 months away, and it gives them a decent time on that version before they have to upgrade.
You could also look at some way of extending a licence rather than forcing an upgrade.
My two cents worth ...
Cheers,
Brian
