Hi Guys,

We have an application that has been working fine for over 20 years, it's running on Unidata 8.1.2 on Windows Server 2012 using SB+ and SBClient 5.5.4

This session runs unattended 24/7 on the server console and basically...

1. scans the database for new transactions
2. packages them into files
3. transfers those files to a folder (to be picked up by an external FTP process)
4. sleeps for 15 minutes
5. return to step 1

Late last year we suddenly started to get the below error pop-up, this error disconnects the session, if I reconnect the session it then runs OK for a while (perhaps a few days) but then this same thing happens again
[Graphical user interface, text, application Description automatically generated]

This customer has 5 servers running this same application and once this started to happen on one server it also started to happen on the other servers too.

If the servers are rebooted the issue seems to go away for a while but then comes back.

Occasionally users using the system day to day will experience a system slowdown just before they see the below error flash up, if they then try the same function again it works, I suspect this is connected to the above issue but it's only my suspicion.

Just wondering if anyone has seen this before or may know what the issue may be?

Thanks

Barry,

Your attachments and images got stripped so cannot be seen.

In 'usual' suspects' from the general problem profile - i.e. it is cumulative over a number of days and affects multiple servers - then the issue is likely environmental:

  • Anti-virus
  • Real-time disk defragmentation software
  • Backup process intrusion
  • Insufficient disk space
  • Insufficient O/S resources (memory, CPU, etc.) - monitor and look for a bottleneck.
  • Domain server or DNS issue - try using a local machine user ID, not a domain user and get Administrators to check the network..
I recommend opening a support call on this through your normal support channel.

Hi John,
Thank you for your feedback.
For clarity the screen shot that was stripped out showed the following...

U2 exception handler...
Generating exception log file C:\\U2\\81\\minidump\\exception_2100_0122_113207.txt...
Unhandled Exception raised at address 0xE33D888E : Access violation. Attempted to read from address 0x0000000A.
Exception file: C:\\U2\\81\\minidump\\exception_2100_0122_113207.txt
Min dump file C:\\U2\\81\\minidump\\u2dump_2100_0122_113207.dmp
then various "logging" messages

I have already raised a support call via our local Unidata dealer, I was just hoping that someone on this forum may have seen this and may have some ideas as to the cause.

Thanks
Barry
