Hey all,

First time posting so I hope I'm in the correct area. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

With the recent dropping of OpenSSL 1.1.1 support, I'm wondering if there has been communications from Rocket Software to support OpenSSL 3 for UniData 8.2.4. This is going to be a huge pain-point for our organization and are trying to prevent issues stemming from this if at all possible.

From reading about OpenSSL 1.1 vs OpenSSL 3, there is a possibility of applications that use 1.1 to work with 3.0, but there's no guarantee. Backwards compatibility is limited.

Another question because I'm curious: has anyone implemented openssl 3 for UniData 8.2.4 and, if so, were there any issues?

Thanks,
Brandon

Hi @Brandon Bunch

There have been communication in terms of OpenSSL 3 support via our quartely product roadmaps for the last year or so.

UniData 8.3.1 is due to be released this quarter and it will be the first release of UniData to support OpenSSL 3.0

We cannot back port or add OpenSSL 3 to UniData 8.2.4, as many changes had to be made to add OpenSSL 3.0 to UniData 8.3.1

There are huge fundemental differences in the underlying structure of OpenSSL 1.1.1 vs OpenSSL 3, including the removal of default support of older encryption alogorithms.

If you need OpenSSL 3.0 you will need to upgrade to UniData 8.3.1 when it is released.

We will be hosting webinars about the release and other new features of 8.3.1 and details of how to register for those webinars will be posted on the forum from our product management team.

Thanks,

Hey @Jonathan Smith

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm new to the online world of Rocket Software forums; is there a location on the site to subscribe to quarterly updates so I won't (hopefully) ask questions that have already been answered elsewhere?

I understand the huge fundamental difference, hence my concerns. I understand minor version updates are supported, but wasn't sure about 3.X.X. I'll look for the quarterly report and read through it. I have a feeling it'll be just what I need.

Thanks a ton,
Brandon
