Hi,
Users complained for poor performance of one query on flex table. Problem is caused by data manipulations that cannot be optimally expressed in SQL.
I can easily address issue by writing c++ UDx function that take raw flex data and do whatever user wants.
This would be a very specialised function useful only for very small group of users.
Problem is that Vertica is not disclosing raw format and do not provide c++ API for raw access.
It would not a be a big deal to look on binary format of raw and reverse engineer it.
On other thought, I should not do it. Information and support for access better come officially from Vertica.
Question - can Vertica disclose raw format, or better provide c++ API for access.
I would ask for some simple c++ API for raw access:
1) list all keys in raw
2) get value for key
3) get nested raw for key.
Please ask Vertica Engineering, will they be willing to disclose raw format and/or provide c++ API.
