Hi there,

Currently one of my customer has data backup plan like the following.

1)Run vbr incremental backup into local storage of each Vertica node
2)Copy backup the snapshots on the local to NetApp storage

Customer just wants to copy the latest incremental files at the 2nd phase, but not full snapshot files.

In my understanding, we have to specify same location in order to run vbr incremental backup and the incremental backup snapshots(DIR and files) are not separeted from older backup's.

Is there a way to manually copy ONLY incremental directories and files generated by vbr? Does anyone have a good idea? Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Junpei

Hi Junpei,
NetApp can be mounted as filesystem, right? So what you need is , just running rsync to synchronize your local backup locations to NetApp's.

Thanks Dingqiang!
Customer uses NetApp storage as their company’s standard backup storage. However they said that vbr doesn’t work on the NetApp directly due to (maybe) lack of POSIX file locking support. Therefore customer has to run vbr backup onto local ext4 filesystem at first. Next they want to copy a backup snapshot to NetApp. At that time, they want to avoid copying full-backup images.

Junpei, DQ, I know you both and we're friendly.

I'd like to suggest we ask this question directly to the VBR distribution list. They are the experts. Let's get them involved.

Cheers,

Tom
