CPU high usage

i used thsi query to check for high vertica CPU - select * from cpu_usage where average_cpu_usage_percent >50 . However when I see in Linux don't see spikes pointed by Vertica. Is Vertica cpu usage accurate. I am on Vertica 8.1

    v_monitor.cpu_usage is a system table which shows CPU usage history by minute.
    So does the view monitor.cpu_total_by_minute
    Short CPU picks will not always be reflected in those metrics.

    yes shows per minute for about 5-10 minutes but during that time if I use Linux top /ps cant see high cpu usage
