Hi experts!

Does anyone have any experience with Vertica in a Dell infrastructure? We are wondering if there are some differences in performance while comparing with HPE in the same hardware specs.

We just defined an architecture based on HPE DL 380 G9 for a customer, but they're asking about Dell option (assuming price is a difference, of course). I suppose that it shouldn't make a performance difference with same specs, because we are an open platform regarding hardware, but I don't know about any Dell experience with Vertica.

Do we have benchmarks between Vertica running on Dells and HPEs? Any experience about it?

Thanks!
David.

Hi David,
if the customer forwards the DL380 cookbook to Dell they will get an offer which is a 98% match. I had a situation of this sort two years ago. Price difference was 7% finally.
Technically the systems will be fully equivalent (according to HPE EG presales).
Give me a call on this if you want.
Dieter

Thanks Dieter!
This is nice info! In this case the HW partner is getting a much better price with Dell regarding same specs. I suppose this depends on different discounts.

But if it's only about price as we assume, let's them decide!

Thank you!!
BR,
David.

Thanks Eugenia!

It sounds good. We won the opportunity and they are going to install the Dell machines. We already proposed the sizing based on the standard guide and everything should be good.

Thank you!

Don't forget to push for the highest clock frequency on the CPU's, we rather have very fast CPUs that a ton of cores. I think 12 cores CPUs would be the ones that offer the highest clock speed.

Thanks Carlos,

We were considering 2x10cores CPUs. So we will see which are the fastest ones we can get.
