So one of my customers stumbled on to an admintools option for stop_db to hibernate. I recall a lot of talk on hibernate during the beta days but can't find much documentation on it now. What does it do and how is it different from simply shutting down your DB cleanly?

I believe that hibernate was supposed to upload the log files and dc tables to the communal storage. As of today this has not been implemented, so there not real difference between them.

-H parameter to admintools to stop the database causes an error, they may have removed the -H option from the --help command in newer releases.

On top of what Carlos already added I did crash the system on a sandbox when trying to hibernate it once. That's when I figured out it is not really supported! :-)

It was kind of like I found that sign that says never push this button. :-)

There is a Jira (62206) titled "Admintools incorrectly provides stop_db help for hibernate (and should not)". Perhaps that should get some more immediate attention?
