Github Encryption Package: https://github.com/vertica/Vertica-Extension-Packages
benchmark time results are shown here:
https://www.vertica.com/blog/gdpr-ready-recipe
For example,
1) Total time it took to Insert 400M rows from staging table to fact table
while encrypting first_name (VARCHAR), last_name (VARCHAR) and SSN (INT) fields in the fact table
was 1.3 minutes.
2) Total time it took to fetch several encrypted SSNs (INT values) from a fact table,
and decrypt only those INT values (SSNs) using their matching encryption keys
from separated secured table, when each table holds 400M rows,
was 47 ms.
3) Fetch several encrypted SSNs (INT values), encrypted first names and last names (VARCHAR), from a fact table,
and decrypt those INT and VARCHAR values, using their matching encryption keys from the separated secured table.
when each table hold two billion rows - was 88 ms.
Pros: Simplicity for fast deployment.
Cons: One has to make sure that the original field data size will be enough to hold its encrypted value.
The same field data will always generate the same encrypted value.
