Hi forum,
this is the first time I work with a prospect interested in VSQLOH. Please find my list of very basic questions
1. which rpm would the prospect download from myvertica.com? Assumption: the rpm for the corresponding Linux
2. Is there special doc available for SQLOH? A special installation guide? Please point me to the VSQLOH doc.
3. The video on https://my.vertica.com/blog/installing-vertica-sql-on-hadoopba-p234511/ is private. Can you please share it?
4. Where can I find the current list of functional restrictions (time series SQL, LAVs, ML etc)?
Thank you
Dieter

  1. Yes, VSQLOH is in the same rpm to enterprise edition.

  2. There is no extra steps to install VSQLOH, this feature is ready to use after Vertica installed. The way to use VSQLOH is to use Hadoop Interfaces, please refer to:
    https://my.vertica.com/docs/8.1.x/HTML/index.htm#Authoring/HadoopIntegrationGuide/HadoopIntegrationGuide.htm

  3. Sorry, I can not access that video neither.

  4. I'm not quite familiar with those functions you mentioned. While, since Vertica maintains local copy or metadata of the data from HDFS (when using local storage), I assume there is no specific functional restrictions.

The video is in my.vertica.com so anyone with a My Vertica login should be able to view it.

Hi kaguan,
is the series of steps to use VSQLOH with HDFS storage then
1. install the 'normal' rpm
2. create a storage location on HDFS
3. define a policy to store all objects of a DB on this new storage location?
Thanks
Dieter

Hi Soniya,
thank you for making the video available. It is very comprehensive!
I.e. the first part of Ambari configuration is new for me.

Still I am surprised that after VSQLOH installation a local Linux file system is used/the default for DB space. I had expected a 'HDFS only database space' system.

My impression is that a mix of local storage and HDFS is possible. How will our licensing handle this?

One more item: can Vertica installed WITHIN a Docker container? I downloaded the Hortonworkds sandbox and found the Hadoop installation to be in a Docker container.
Any way to get VSQLOH running there?

Thanks
Dieter
