For an MC user to use Designe ... you must create the user on the Vertica server? Not true?

Out docs states "To allow a user with the DBDUSER role to run Database Designer using Management Console, you must create the user on the Vertica server."

See:
https://my.vertica.com/docs/9.0.x/HTML/index.htm#Authoring/AdministratorsGuide/ConfiguringTheDB/PhysicalSchema/DBD/AllowingDBDUSERToRunDBDUsingMC.htm

I am finding that not to be the case.

That is, I can have a MC user mapped to a DB user that has the DBDUSER role and it can run designer fine in MC.

The only requirement I see is that the MC user have at least have the MC IT role and that the DB user has to own the table they are trying modify with designer. Unfortunately, I cannot find anywhere in the doc that confirms that last part (about owning tables).

Any one have any thoughts on this?
