Is the recommendation of reducing GENERAL memory when catalog takes more than 5% still up to date?

Hello,

In various blogs and in the documentation, we recommend to reduce the MAXMEMORYSIZE of GENERAL pool if the catalog uses over 5% of overall memory.
For example;
https://www.vertica.com/docs/9.2.x/HTML/Content/Authoring/SQLReferenceManual/Statements/Built-inPools.htm#GENERAL

Is this still relevant?
To my understanding, in recent versions, for example > 9.1 , there is a
specific pool METADATA for the catalog that tracks the catalog memory, and the GENERAL pool only takes the percentage defined from what is left once we subtract the METADATA usage, so this recommendation does not make sense to me,

Any idea?

Many thanks

Many thanks Eugenia for the quick answer! :)
We should update the documentation as it has confused some customers (& me :blush: )
