Vertica should make some statement official regarding support for running inside docker. Some experience in ITOM has shown it to be unstable.

Hi all, I've done some experiments with Docker and Kubernetes because we're getting increasing requests for support for these from the field.
The major issue is that Vertica is stateful so you need persistent local storage for config, catalog, data, etc. This is less so with Eon mode so that might be the better use case. However, I expect similar issues with Docker as with VM where Vertica expect that it has the full resources of the hardware, dedicated network and disk so you'll need to provision your containers and hardware solidly. Also factor in whether you'll allow container moves (similar to VMotion, GCP does us underneath)
@dgrumann Could you be more specific on how Vertica is unstable on containers? We'll need every bit of experience to make it better.

Hi Bryan - Follow up with me in email doug.grumann@microfocus.com we can discuss ITOM's docker/k8s experience. Regardless of whatever activities are being done for the future, it would be good for somebody on the Vertica side to add some customer-facing docs what the current position is with regards to official support of Vertica inside docker.

Supporting Containers is important for Vertica and we are working on this support. Doug, Would love to understand your use case as we build the support for K8.
