Knowledge Document: Vertica disk space occupied discrepancy

Vertica Analytics Database: v12.x and higher

Situation

du and df commands on operating system show a much higher usage of data filesystem disk. Whereas, when vertica is queried, it shows a much lesser disk consumption.

[ajilani@prod-vert1 VerticaScrutinize.20251104165500]$ cat v_xxx_node000?/context/Commands/df
Filesystem                              Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/VG1-data                     14T   13T  356G  98% /data1

Here the data1 disk is 98% occupied. Below is another such example -

/dev/mapper/VG1-data                     14T   13T  379G  97% /data1
