Hi forum,
a Vertica customer is interested on licensing the Voltage addon for Vertica. I need to respond to these questions. Please provide your insights and comments.
Thank you

  1. Is the number of encrypted database columns relevant for licensing? Only 5% of the columns are target for encryption (Dieters assumption: not relevant)
  2. For a start encryption is only intended for one of the applications run on the Vertica instance. If only this single DB schema is target for Voltage: what is the base for licensing then. This single schema has a size of 5 TB, the complete system has a 20 TB Vertica license. What is the target size for Voltage licensing please?
  3. The customer did three Vertica purchases so far. As the volumes very pretty different so was the Vertica price per TB. What is the base for the Voltage pricing then (40% of a weighted average)?
  4. Is the Voltage pricing offer "40% of the Vertica price" the only offer we make or are there additional pricing offers?

Best regards
Dieter

Hi Pavel,

The Voltage addon for Vertica is licensed per Vertica instance.
The price is 40% of the Vertica license price.

The price does not depend on the # of encrypted columns/tables.
