Prospect sent the following questions today:
1) what is the best way to migrate Redshift data on AWS to Vertica on AWS?
2) Can Vertica import a Redshift Snapshot?
Or should you use multiple DMS Tasks to transfer the schema/tables over?

Hi All

Agree with Eugenia - you can only get data back and forth through the ODBC/JDBC and SQL interface, in that case. SELECT * FROM each table from Redshift, and use the data you get that way to populate a parametrised INSERT statement on the other side. That's what odb does - it's "just" a broker between two databases, albeit a pretty efficient one.

And you can also use odb to extract the DDL - at least an initial version - of the tables concerned, and apply the DDL obtained to Vertica prior to loading.

Alternatively, search for Redshift's capabilities to produce the DDL of the existing tables - including their segmentation settings - unsegmented or segmented by something.

Then, to cross the t-s and dot the i-s, use dbman to profile the data obtained for best possible data types and sizes.

Good luck ...
