One of our customers found that more than ONE CPU socket in AWS results in performance degradation probably because of NUMA issues.

For example:
c4.8xl cost twice but works ~2-3 times slower than c4.4xl for any concurrency scenarios.

c5.9XL - (36 cores 72 GB ram) works fast with only one CPU socket.
Although not available in the Vertica AMI yet, it is fast in high concurrency scenarios.

What do you think about the above?

Do you have an environment with Vertica v8.1.1-5 to test if ONE CPU socket give better results than TWO CPU sockets on bar-metal nodes on-prem?
Thanks!

@mosheg - A quick search of Jira reveals that we recommend to turn off NUMA.

See:
http://jira.verticacorp.com:8080/jira/browse/VER-44787

Also, the "Vertica OEM Hardware Sizing Guide" states "Be aware that Vertica is a non NUMA-aware application, so your containerization or virtualization technology that is breaking the machine into pieces also needs to handle all the NUMA functionality. Otherwise, the NUMA functionality has a negative performance impact on Vertica."
