"package installation failed". Where do I look for hints why?

Hi All -

This is happening at a customer installation site - possibly from an unusual environment as they create their own AMI-s for Amazon-based Vertica nodes.

On CREATE DATABASE or on
admintools -t install_package --package <package -d <db> -p <pwd> --force-reinstall
.. of, for example, the flextables package, we just get the laconic message
package installation failed.

Can anyone point us where to look for details? We did not have the feeling that vertica.log was very informative here ...
