Hello,

Have we got somewhere a Random data generator to do some volume testing on Vertica?
I have used various Python data generator and Benerator , but most of them are very slow and not very user friendly.

Regards
Bernard

In /opt/vertica/examples/VMart_Schema there's the vmart_gen which will generate data and has the ability to pass it a seed as well as row counts per table so you can somewhat create random data. It is however specific to the VMart example database design. I used this recently to create a 50 million row fact table and it was pretty fast.

thanks , yes I know that smart_gen tool , I meant something a bit more generic , that could produce some random data according to a database schema.

Hi Bernad,
We have a generic data generator that you can use. However, it is still in packaging stage. Therefore, I will reach out to you to share the data generator.
Thanks,
Jawahar.

Hi Bernad,
I've learned from Maurizio how to generate data very quickly.
Try the attached demo script:

Thanks,
Moshe
