Vertica is classified as a "beta" data sources dor DirectQuery in PowerBI by Micorsoft
This status has not changed for several months (6 month ?)
I do understand that t's related only to the DirectQuery mode
Does anyone have information to share about that ?
Hi Francois. Yes, DirectQuery connection to Vertica from Power BI Server/Service (SaaS) is still in beta. DirectQuery from PBI Server/Service (SaaS) will be supported through the on-premises data gateway which has a different release cycle than Power BI Desktop. So even if the Vertica connector on PBI Desktop is no longer in beta, DirectQuery functionality from PBI Service will depend on the release of the gateway supporting DirectQuery. For this reason, we recommend using Import mode until Microsoft completes the development of this functionality. It is important to clarify that the development is entirely on Microsoft's end, it is on their road map but their release deadline may slip.
Have you bring this up in the Power BI community and forum? the more request we can get the easier it is to get their attention and the faster it is to move the project forward.

We are currently testing the On-premises data gateway to see if the direct query feature with Vertica has been added. Once our testing concludes, will blog about it and also let you know.
