We are using Vertica 8.1.x. We set our General Max Memory setting to 70%. However Vertica seems to grow beyond that.

The sum of all resource pools 86GB and Vertica often grows above 100GB. The sum of the actual resource pool usage usually adds up to 86GB, but linux tells us it is using more than that.

I was told by Vertica services that in 8.1 all memory usage should respect the limit of the MaxMemory now, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Are there concurrent insert-select queries in execution that time.

Yes, we often select from the same table that could have an ongoing insert. Is that an issue?

In HTOP (if you use this) you see reserved memory that is just allocated to Vertica, it will be freed up upon requested by the system.
