This is what I can see when I list the content of my Vertica mount point:
There is a directory with the same name as my database: sbx
And the content of the sbx are:

drwxr-xr-x 5 dbadmin verticadba 4096 2019-10-30 19:03 ./
drwxr-xr-x 11 dbadmin verticadba 4096 2020-05-30 17:23 ../
-rw-r--r-- 1 dbadmin verticadba 148085 2020-06-10 12:10 dbLog
-rw-r--r-- 1 dbadmin verticadba 5 2019-10-30 19:03 port.dat
drwx------ 2 dbadmin verticadba 4096 2020-02-18 12:08 procedures/
drwx------ 9 dbadmin verticadba 4096 2020-06-10 12:09 v_sbx_node0001_catalog/
drwx------ 503 dbadmin verticadba 12288 2020-06-11 08:36 v_sbx_node0001_data/

sbx_node0001_catalog contains the catalogue
sbx_node0001_data contains all data of the database.
Projections are the only place where we store data. They are and are not tablespaces, indexes and materialized views. So, yes, projection data are all the data and the only data backed up.
