I installed Micro Focus COBOL for Visual Studio 2022. Everything is working except for when I push the enter key in a COBOL file. I get an error popup that says "The operation could not be completed. Unspecified error." I have reinstalled COBOL but the issue is still persisting.

What version of Visual COBOL are you using?

Are you using Visual Studio 2022 version 17.10+?
If you are then you need to ensure that you have the following patch updates installed or newer.

For VC / ED 8.0 patch update 8.0.16

For VC / ED 9.0 patch update 9.0.07

If you already have these patch updates installed and are still seeing this issue, then you should run the following command:

  1. Locate MFVSIXInstall.exe in %ProgramFiles(x86)%\\Micro Focus\\Visual COBOL\\vsix, and in the VS17.0 subfolder.
  2. Run MFVSIXInstall.exe.

Try again.

Hello Mr. Glazier, I am using VC 9.0 Personal edition and after reinstall Visual -Cobol I am unable to edit or insert a new line in the code in Visual Studio 2022. I am able to build using the command line compiler/linker. You said to sort it out I have to install "VC / ED 9.0 patch update 9.0.07" but I don't have entitlements to do it. I am using WMWARE Fusion 13 macos.on  Windows 11 Pro. I am desperate because I did uninstall/install . the toolchain many times, running the vsx installer, etc, etc.

As a workaround until you can install 9.0 PU 7, use ctrl+enter to add a new line.

How about I create a new virtual machine and install the Visual Studio and Visual Cobol, will it work?

The problem isn't the VM it is a problem with Visual Studio 2022 17.10.

You could open up the Visual Studio 2022 installer and rollback the current product version to prior to 17.10.

Or you could send me an email at cglazier@rocketsoftware.com and I will provide you with a link where you could download the latest patch update once I figure out where to place it..

Do you have the location where I could download the patch updates. I can't seem to find where they are and I am unable to rollback my vs2022 to a version prior to 17.10
