I would recommend that you look at the sample programs that access databases using OpenESQL which is our embedded SQL precompiler. From the Windows Start menu open up the Micro Focus Visual COBOL group and click on Samples to run the Samples Browser. In the left hand drop down list select Show Native Only and then from the list below click on SQL. The samples you should look at are shown in the list on the right and they begin with OESQL.
There are also a number of videos that cover various topics of OpenESQL from simple to complex.
The videos can be found here:

I am unsure which version of Visual COBOL you are using but the versions that plug into Visual Studio 2008 are too old to support. I recommend that you upgrade your Visual Studio to VS2019 and download the latest version of Visual COBOL which is V7.0 so that we can support you and provide you with advice.
If you are currently on maintenance with Micro Focus you should be able to download the current version from the Support Portal. If you are not on maintenance you should contact Micro Focus Sales. If you just wish to use the Visual COBOL Personal Edition which is for learning purposes only then you can send me an email at chris.glazier@microfocus.com and I will provide you with a copy and a license.
Thanks

Mail on the road/line!
You can import the netexpress-project in visual studio/cobol to become a *.sln and continue in visual Cobol!
Please give feedback, thanks
