No. Visual COBOL is not available on MacOS. It is available on Windows and a number of Linux variants.
No. Visual COBOL does not assist in converting COBOL code to Java or C. However, in qualified cases COBOL can be compiled under Visual COBOL to Java Byte Code or CIL (.NET). The source code remains in COBOL, but the language gains many new capabilities including new modern syntax. This is in addition to traditional syntax. It effectively becomes a .NET language or JVM language depending on which of those 2 options you choose.
In addition to samples and tutorials included with the product, product documentation, and youtube vidoes, here is a link to a book that contains detailed information on this subject:

Thanks Michael for your reply! Is there anyway to use free Visual COBOL on Mac? I think there is a free Visual COBOL plugin that can be downloaded through Visual Studio Code application (which should be possible in Mac?). It's not support in Mac because you can't compile the code to Mac's ISA?
Also, to understand Visual COBOL more broadly, it is a new version of COBOL that MicroFocus is proposing to provide backward comparability with earlier dialects of COBOL, extending new features with Visual COBOL through it's OOPS support and integrate with Java/C# as well. Is my understanding correct? Visual COBOL seems to be a very exciting tool and I am eager to try it out soon in my Mac

Sorry but the VSCode extension is also not supported on Mac. You can read the product overview here
Your understanding of Visual COBOL is mostly correct, but the product and its integration with the .NET Framework and JVM have been around for years now. Newer product versions have also added support for .NET 6.

You can use VS Code on Mac. Using the Remote Connection / Remote Explorer via SSH you could connect to a Linux machine where Visual COBOL Developer hub is installed. That is essentially using Visual COBOL on Linux NOT on MacOS. Otherwise, Windows and Linux are the supported platforms.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I am able to download VS Code. I hope it's backward compatible with the older COBOL dialects (like the ones supported by IBM). IBM also have their Z-editor plugin in VSC for COBOL code editing. How's your tool different or better? Do you use GNUCobol for compiling or your custom compiler?
One other broad question: Does any of Opentext/Microfocus tool help with code conversion from COBOL to any other language if we want to make that transition? It seems like VisualCOBOL, EnterpriseCOBOL, COBOL analyzer tools provide support and want us to stay within the COBOL environment, either modernise to new COBOL dialect like VisualCOBOL or/and integrate with JVM environment to integrate your other Java code. Is that a correct sense of things? Eager to hear from you:)

Can I get access to the bank demo COBOL code base/repo and the other COBOL code used in this video: https://youtu.be/enFMdDI9V2g ?
It would really help to try out the Visual COBOL features with a complex code base instead of simple dummy examples. Even complex, real-world code-bases would help if you can share with me to try out visual COBOL features.
Also, I am trying to get free access to enterprise COBOL to try it out (it's features like flowchart, program control flow, etc.). I applied for it and got license but I am not able to install it (it downloads a no-readme file). Can someone help me with it? I have a Mac and if Enterprise COBOL can't be installed in it, is it possible to get Azure cloud access or something where I can use a browser to try out its features.
I am really interested in Visual COBOL and COBOL analyzer products and am looking for a long term collaboration with MicroFocus but want to give out initial trials to actually try out the contents of the YouTube training videos.

It is not clear which products you are intersted in. There are two separate lines of products. Neither runs on MacOS.
Distributed COBOL (non-mainframe)
Visual COBOL
COBOL Analyzer
Enterprise
Enterprise Developer
Enterprise Analyzer
The BankDemo is for the Enterprise products.
There is a different Community forum for the Enterprise products as well as for the Analyzer products, such as (3) Micro Focus™︎ COBOL Analyzer User Discussions | Micro Focus (now OpenText) Community
Your best bet for these types of questions is to contact your local Sales Account Representative. If you are having a product issue with installation then they can have Customer Care contact you directly.

Thanks for the reply! What's the difference between COBOL analyzer and enterprise analyzer? I thought both were the same! Also, if the bank demo cobol code is available freely somewhere, can you please point me to it?
Sure, I will reach out to some sales agent to discuss about product installation issues! Is it possible to somehow host these tools on a cloud like AWS/Azure and access them through browser (as I have a Mac only and can't find a Windows system but somehow want to try these tools out easily)?

Hi Sundar,
COBOL Analyzer is geared towards Distibuted COBOL applications that do not require mainframe components like CICS, BMS, etc. Enterprise Analyzer also contains the capability of analyzing full mainframe applications.
COBOL Analyzer is therefore a subset of Enterprise Analyzer in much the same way as Visual COBOL is a subset of Enterprise Developer.
We did have a trial version in the cloud but I am not sure what became of it. That's why it would be better to post this question to the appropriate Community forum or better yet, speak with sales about this as they are more up to speed with the current offerings.
The BankDemo application can be downloaded from OpenText Github BankDemo

Thanks a ton! Let me post my question in COBOL analyzer forum then!
