Hi,

We are doing the Micro Focus Cobol Fundamentals Course (COBOL in 1 day) but when compiling there is no license available for Micro Focus COBOL v6. Course documentation does not talk about the need for a license.

What should we do?

Regards

Hi Juan,

Compiling and Debugging in the VSCode extension requires Visual COBOL 7.0 or higher. If you have Visual COBOL 6 installed on the machine it will not function properly.

If you install VSCode and the Learn COBOL extension on a machine with no Visual COBOL product installed then a Community Edition version of Visual COBOL will be installed automatically and will not require a license.

Hi Chris,

It seems that VSCode with the Learn COBOL extension found some old license there and did not install the Community Edition. I will try to remove that license and reinstall the extension and see if that helps.

Btw, the course is great. It would be fantastic to have it with spanish subtitles.

Well Chris,

VS Code has two extensions installed: Learn COBOL and Micro Focus COBOL but when I run the sample code it shows a licensing error 37, Duration of trial license of SolarNativeRuntime is exhausted.

License Administration shows an old Visual Studio PE Visual Studio Trial license and there is no way to remove it.

If you uninstalled Visual COBOL then you should also uninstall the Micro Focus License manager as it is not uninstalled automatically.

The licensing files can be found in C:\\ProgramData\\Micro Focus
If you delete the files lservrc.net and .stn if they exist, the license will no longer be found.

Great Chris!

I removed the license, uninstalled the old version and now VSCode installed the community edition and all runs fine.

You are the one!

Have a nice weekend
