Hi. im new in visual Cobol, i would like to know how to connect to a database. And this program will just add, edit and delete. I can make it in Visual C#. Is it the same?? Help please. :(

    If you are using managed COBOL then you can use the .NET framework classes directly to access databases or you can use embedded EXEC SQL or EXEC ADO statements to do this.

    The best place to start is to open up the Samples Browser and click on SQL in the left hand column and then you will be presented with a list of available SQL samples in the right hand column.

    These are clearly marked as either for managed code or native code.

    The Samples Browser can be started by going to Start-->All Programs-->Micro Focus Visual COBOL and clicking on Samples.

    Honestly, i don't know the difference of the two. :(

    But we are instructed to make a cobol program that will have a buttons and database.

    We are only taught to program in blue screen/Dosbox.

    It's okay to program for the green/blue screen but never mind you can easily program in COBOL the same way you used to. All you need is to make sure that you can use EXEC SQL statements, if so then do the following:

    1. Go to you start menu and  go to Visual COBOL start menu entry

    2. Go to ODBC Data Source Administrator

    3. Click on System DSN Tab.

    4. Click on Add connection and then select the database driver based on your database

    5. Name your data source and fill the connection fields appropriately.

    Try to do this now and if you are facing any problems I am glad to do it for you using TeamViewer. After you finish reply to me the data source name and I will give you the skeleton code to do EXEC SQL statements.

    Yes You Can. When you want to add the data source select Microsoft Access Driver(*.mdb) and you then select the .mdb file that you want to use

    I tried to connect a sample database in Acces, but i used the process of connecting database in Tools>Connect to database.
