Greeetings. When I try to execute the .exe files, I've just downloaded, following the instructions from the email MF sent me, they  say that I do not have the MF installed, I am running windows 10. Please, any suggestion? PS, next is the log I tried to unload, it appears to be an image, or photo though. Sometimes when I build my visual cobol win form project I will get a compile error I-O error:  IDY file.  I then have to close visual studio, go to the debug folder of the project and delete the files within in.  I restart visual studio, open the project and compile is successful.  Does anyone know why this randomly happens or what can be done to fix the problem?   Thanks.

Hi there,I am trialling Visual Cobol and because I don't have the manuals would like to know if somebody can help convert the following bits of legacy code which are throwing up "unknown type *OLE" errors. Many thanks,Greg. 000350 ENVIRONMENT DIVISION.000360 CONFIGURATION SECTION.000410 SPECIAL-NAMES.000420                 ENVIRONMENT-NAME   IS NT-ENV-NAME000430                 ENVIRONMENT-VALUE  IS NT-ENV-VALUE000440                 CONSOLE IS CONS-1.000450 REPOSITORY.000460                 CLASS OLE AS '*OLE'.... 001220       MOVE  '0'         &nbs

I have read mixed reviews about using the report writer.  Does anyone have any pros and cons they would like to share?  To me, it seems very easy to use when you wish to generate reports instead of having a lot of working-storage section items for filler, headers, footers, etc.  Should the report writer be used for all generated reports?

Is there any way to display a Dialog screen and have it return to the Visual COBOL program without the user having to click anything on the screen? What I am trying to do is display information regarding what my program is doing on the screen for the user to see but I do not want to stop my program from running ( I do not want to interrupt program's run time). Usually, when a Dialog screen displays, it stops the program and waits for user input (it waits for an event triggered by a button on the screen). I am trying to display a screen and have it return to the program without the user having to click on an object on the screen. I have tried the following: ******************************** SCREENSET-INITIALIZED MOVE-OBJECT-HANDLE CLNTPROS DSMOVSZ-HANDLE-COUNT(1) MOVE "mova" DSMOVSZ-FUNCTION(1) CALLOUT "dsmovsz" 0 DSMOVSZ-PARAMETER-BLOCK IF= RETC-FLAG 1 DISPLAY-AND-RETURN DISPLAY-AND-RETURN      RETC ********************************* This code exe

We are migrating from Server Express 5.1 to Visual COBOL 3.0.  I am trying to get a very basic COBJVM example to debug.   The environment is   Visual COBOL for express 3.0 on windows 10 Visual COBOL devhub 3.0 on SLES 12.   I have created a new remote COBOL project with Java Byte Code target.   I have created and compiled a very simple COBOL program   (See end of this post)   The program compiles fine, and I can run it by going over to Linux and running cobjrun, but when I try to debug it in eclipse I get the following error                    Could not launch remote project.  Check that the remote server settings are not empty.    the remote server setting is definitely not empty, it shows the correct server.   ----- program ----          program-id. ap02 as "ap02".       data division.       working-storage section

Can anyone elaborate on using typedefs as opposed to copy replacing.  I don't understand the concept and the little bit of reading that I found does not help much.  Is this a better way of coding working-storage items?  Please provide example code if possible.#VisualCOBOL

Are there any good code examples available for using the printer routine libraries in a managed cobol program?

I was reading somewhere where the Merge statement is not often used with sequential files.  Is there an alternative or a best practice when using sort and merge statements?

Hi To summarize: In VC 2.3 for VS, we need to digitally sign portions of an XML document in SOAP envelope.  We are using classes in System.Security.Cryptography.Xml, in particular the class SignedXml We are having trouble signing xml when we add a Reference based on an Id attribute.  We are getting "Malformed Reference Element" exception when ComputeSignature is invoked. After much searhing on the internet I made have found the answer in stackoverflow, but I need to convert C# code below:   public class SignedXmlWithId : SignedXml{ public SignedXmlWithId(XmlDocument xml) : base(xml) { } public SignedXmlWithId(XmlElement xmlElement) : base(xmlElement) { } public override XmlElement GetIdElement(XmlDocument doc, string id) { // check to see if it's a standard ID reference XmlElement idElem = base.GetIdElement(doc, id); if (idElem == null) { XmlNamespaceManager nsManager = new XmlNamespaceManager(doc.NameTable); nsManager.AddNamespace("wsu",

I have my printer_redirection value = true in my app.config file under Tunables.  Is there an option that I can set in this same place that will open up the windows printer dialog.  Right now, my file is going straight to the printer without allowing me to change options such as printing landscape or whatever is available for my printer dialog.

Hi, Does anyone know if OpenESQL works against Hadoop using Microsofts HIVE ODBC driver or any other Hadoop ODBC driver.  Native or Managed Cobol? thanks K

I am run on redhat 7.3 using screen sections with foreground and background color and would like to know if there is a way to determine if a user screen is showing up properly in color, because if it is not then I want to try for white on gray instead of the stark white and black that happens now. Maybe the lack of expected results is due to terminal type or some other setting but I think I should be able to write a character in say white on blue and then read that character to see if that is the result I expected. Was thinking about the library routine of cbl_read_scr_chattrs but not sure how to compare the information received in the attribute buffer.  Any suggestions?   Snip from current code below where I have had to use the routine for cbl_scr_set_pc_attribute to have screen rewrites work properly. Thank you.          01  SCREEN-1           BLANK SCREEN    &

I think this question may have been answered before, but I couldn't find anything whilst searching the site, so I thought I'd try the direct method. We are beginning the process if upgrading from Visual Cobol 2.2 to 4.0.  I already have 2.2 for Visual Studio 2012 installed on my workstation.  If I install Visual Studio 2015 and Visual Cobol 4.0, will I be able to run both, or will the 4.0 install overlay 2.2. I will still be maintaining 2.2 code while working through the upgrade process, so I was hoping I could use both on the same machine. Thanks for the help! Mike#VisualCOBOL

I am a COBOL programmer trying to create a Web Application in Visual Cobol from a very old system with multiple programs and screens. I am struggling to find tutorials or videos which would help. My knowledge of ASP.net is very limited. I have been through the Tutorial: Developing Web Applications which is wonderful but doesn't really explain how I can use it for my application. Please can someone point me in the right direction. Shirley

Can you access enums in one class from another?  I have a models folder with some enum values setup in a class file.  I want to access those enums from within another class.  When I instantiate the class object (myClass type Stats value new Stats()), i was hoping to have access to the enum values, but intellisense does not seem to recognize them. Thanks.

the precompile-step   "P(gcc) -E -P -x c  -I/home/max/workMax/include ENDP" gets always the error "COBCH0018S Preprocessor error on initialization" Any idea, what went wrong?

Are extension methods still recognized in the latest visual cobol for .net?  I have a very simple ext method I am trying out and it does not seem to be recognized.  I keep getting the error Undefined Error Contact Tech Support.  I have a static extensions class like this.   class-id Extensions static.   Method-id CountWords(str as string) returning result as binary-long extension static.    declare #words as string occurs any = str::Split(' ')    set result to size of #words end method. End class.     Then my calling method is in another class like this. Method-id SomeMethod() declare a as string = "Mary" declare b as binary-long = a::CountWords End method.   Intellisense does not recognize CountWords as an extension and I get the error noted above.#VisualCOBOL
