Am I reading the VC 2.3 Release Notes correctly?

In order to upgrade from VC 2.2.2 to VC 2.3 I must first uninstall 2.2.2 and then install 2.3?

Is this how its going to be for any and all updates (x.y.z) also, or does this apply to only major and minor version upgrades (x and x.y)?

This should be true only for major releases like 2.2.. -> 2.3..
