Hi

We are upgrading from Visual Cobol 2.3 for Visual Studio Community 2015 to Visual Cobol 8.0 for Visual Studio Community 2022, on Windows 10 pc’s.  I know where to get the downloads from, just have some questions:

Do we need to manually uninstall Visual Studio 2015 before we install Visual Studio 2022, or is this something that is done automatically in the installation?  Will we be prompted to uninstall Visual Studio 2015 during the installation?  Will the older version simply be replaced?

Similarly for Visual Cobol: is it necessary to uninstall Visual Cobol 2.3 first, or is this handled in the installation?  Will we be prompted to uninstall Visual Studio 2.3 during the installation?  Will the older version simply be replaced?

Do we need to revoke the license in Visual Cobol 2.3, giving an authorization code, and then enter the code after Visual Cobol 8.0 is installed, or will the license automatically carry over from version 2.3 to 8.0?  I imagine it is not necessary to request new license key authorization codes from Micro Focus, unless we are requesting extra licenses?

Kind Regards

Brendan

why do you not use the latest version of visual cobol 9.0?
Yes, you must deinstall visual cobol 2.3 and also the old visual studio 2015, then reboot and install the vs2022 and after this visual cobol 9.0

Why do you not install the new software on a new workstation and then use windwos 11 (windows10 is obsolete)

So you can continue to work with the old system!

You must contact Microfocus/OpenText for a new license (i think so, this was my experience when you don't have active maintenance)

Hi Brendan,

It is recommended to uninstall Visual Studio 2015 and Visual COBOL 2.3 first, and then install Visual Studio 2022 and Visual COBOL 8.0.

The Visual Studio 2022 installation will not prompt you to do anything with any existing Visual Studio installation while the Visual COBOL 8.0 setup will detect that Visual COBOL 2.3 is already installed and should be uninstalled first.

As for the license, the uninstallation process of Visual COBOL does not uninstall the license manager and license.

But a new license is necessary, this was my experience by vc 3.0!

and why install vc 8.0 when vc 9.0 is available!

Hi

Thanks.  That seems clear enough.  I will try that and let you know how it went.

That worked thanks.  A few issues with V8, I will open another discussion.
