Hi John,

Can you please tell me the exact name of the installer file that you used to install the Visual COBOL product. Also what version of Visual Studio 2015 are you using, i.e. Community, Professional, Enterprise?

Did you have a previous version of Visual COBOL installed on this system before? What version was it?

What was the previous product version that you had installed? Did you uninstall this prior to installing the 2.3 release?

I would recommend that you try to do a product Repair from Control Panel.

If you open up the Micro Focus License Administration tool what does it show under installed licenses?

Can you create any type of project, such as a native console application?

I did uninstall the previous version with the console uninstaller.

Cannot do a repair on vcvs. it allows one on the license mgr, though.

License Admin tool shows - Visual Cobol PE Visual studio

Can create a native  console app.

It sounds like something didn't uninstall properly and somehow an older version of the COBOL CodeDOM assembly is being referenced by the Winform project.

Can you please clarify what you mean by:

"I did uninstall the previous version with the console uninstaller"

What is a console uninstaller?

Also, when you say you cannot do a Repair on the vcvs product what exactly do you mean? If you start Control Panel and select Visual COBOL for Visual Studio 2015 and then click on uninstall/Change you should get a repair option. Do you not get this?

Sorry for the confusion . It's the control panel uninstaller.

I do not get the repair option.

In Control Panel, does it currently show more than one version of Visual COBOL installed? Do you have any other Micro Focus products installed such as Net Express?

We would recommend that you try the following:

1. Uninstall the Visual COBOL product using Control Panel

2. Check that the folder C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Micro Focus\\Visual COBOL has been removed. If it has not then manually delete it using Windows Explorer.

3. Navigate to Start Menu-->All Programs-->Visual Studio 2015-->Visual Studio Tools and right click on Developer Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator

4. From the command prompt enter the command:

   FOR /F "tokens=1 delims=," %A IN ('gacutil /l ^| findstr /c:MicroFocus') DO echo %A

Does it list any assemblies? If yes then what name and version numbers are displayed?

5. If it does list assemblies then you can try removing them using the following command:

   FOR /F "tokens=1 delims=," %A IN ('gacutil /l ^| findstr /c:MicroFocus') DO gacutil /uf %A

6. Repair Visual Studio 2015 Community Edition

7. Install Visual COBOL again

Chris, Being an old mainframe guy I am not familiar with native commands in the command prompt. I typed in what you typed verbatim, but it was not recognized. Should I be in a certain directory or is there more to the command?

This would have to be a Visual Studio Developers prompt in order for it to find the GacUtil command. What was the error that you are receiving?

Another method to check this would be to open up Windows Explorer and navigate to:the folder:

C:\\Windows\\Microsoft.NET\\assembly

In each of the subdirectories, GAC_32, GAC_64 or GAC_MSIL

Do you see any files starting with MicroFocus. in that folder?

There are many programs starting with MicroFocus in all 3 sudirectories the first one GAC_32, holds MicroFocus.COBOL.CodeDom. Drilling down through that directory I get to MicroFocus.COBOL.CodeDom.dll @9/25/2016 7:47.

You see these files AFTER uninstalling the Visual COBOL product through Control Panel?

Yes, the MicroFocus.* files are still there after the delete of Visual COBOL

Also, the visual COBOL folder is still there. I tried to delete it manually after the uninstall but it says I need to provide administrator permission to delete.

If you give it Admin permissions then you should be able to delete it but you may have to go into the subdirectories and delete these first.

So in Control Panel it no longer shows any Micro Focus products as being installed correct?

You need to delete the MicroFocus.* assemblies from the GAC.

What message did you get when you tried the following suggested commands?

1. Navigate to Start Menu-->All Programs-->Visual Studio 2015-->Visual Studio Tools and right click on Developer Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator

I can't get the command to run it tells me that gacutil is not an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. The command prompt is in the c:\\windows\\microsoft.net\\assembly directory when I run the command

Sorry I was in the wrong directory! I got both commands to run now. The only thing left in gac_32 & 64 is Microfocus.COBOL.Sql.OdbcWrapper
