Hi There,
We currently use Visual Cobol 4 on Visual Studio 2017 as well as Cobol Server 4.
If we start using Visual Studio 2019, must we download and use Visual Cobol 5 and if so,
would the Visual Cobol version 5 programs still run under Cobol Server 4?
Hello,
If you are going to use Visual Studio 2019, then yes, you must update your Visual COBOL to version 5.0. In this case, you must also update your COBOL Server to version 5.0 or you might have unpredictable results. We recommend that the run-time is on the same version and same patch update level as the development environment, and never on a lower version. You may find that an older version of Visual COBOL works with a newer version of COBOL Server (not other way around), but we still recommend that the same version is used.

If you are going to upgrade your Visual COBOL version I would recommend that you upgrade to the latest version which is 7.0 and not 5.0 which is quite old itself.
