The Eclipse IDE does have some options to make text larger and easier to read. One quick tip (for customers using the keyboard) is to use key combinations CTRL-Equal Sign (this is the key with the plus symbol to the left of the backspace key on my keyboard) to increase text size, and CTRL-Hyphen to reduce it. This affects the "Editor" views, such as the ones that display source code.

Next, see the Accessibility options from the Eclipse menu at Window-Preferences-General-Editors-Text Editors-Accessibility.

Regarding text colors, Visual COBOL does smart colorization of source code for COBOL Source. To customize these colors:

• Mouse-friendly way:
  • While viewing a COBOL Source file right-click anywhere in the Editor window
  • Choose Preferences (this is a shortcut to a subset of Eclipse settings that are specific to Micro Focus)
  • On the left, choose Editor-Syntax Coloring
  • Provides a preview window that shows different syntax element types
  • For selected element type
    • Choose from Elements in upper list
    • Change color with color picker, font decoration with checkboxes

• Menu-driven way (may be easier for those using voice or other options to control mouse):
  • Windows-Prefs-Micro Focus-COBOL-Editor-Syntax Coloring
    • Provides a preview window that shows different syntax element types
    • For selected element type
      • Choose from Elements in upper list
      • Change color with color picker, font decoration with checkboxes

Beyond COBOL source code, to customize general text colors for other files in the Eclipse IDE:

• Background color
  • Window-Preferences->General->Editors->Text Editors
  • Select "Background color" from Appearance color options list
  • Click color swatch
  • Modify and Apply
• Foreground color
  • If set here, does not affect defined resource types for COBOL, but does affect non-specific resource types such as text files
