What if you have to maintain different version over a long period? Not all of our customers are moving to UF 10 an first sight, some of them using "old" environments which we have to maintain too. Between UF 8 and UF 9 it was possible to move objects (8->9) and then migrate over and over. The same is true for different UF 9 versions. If this is not longer working, how to maintain more then one Uniface version?

Uniface 10 ProjectsAuthor: hans.hoogerwerf@omnext.net (Hans.Hoogerwerf) Uniface 10 supports projects, which means you can define a project and add DSP's, entities, etc. However I wonder what is the sense of these projects? Normally a project is a standalone 'thing'. You can add, change, modify objects of this project without influence other projects. In Uniface 10, you cannot add a DSP with a name which is already used in another project (you get an error). If you modify a DSP in a project, which is also used in other projects, then the modifications are also applied to the other projects. You cannot sea which projects are effected with these modifications. Projects can be a useful add-on to Uniface 10, however I think the objects of the projects have to be stand-alone.

In our projects we discuss the opportunities to integrate UNIFACE and Java. We have several application for different customers developing since UNIFACE 6 and now in UNIFACE 8. On the other side we have newer projects in JAVA which need to interact with UNIFACE (just Call In). We want to read and write Data in UNIFACE and to have the business logic in UNIFACE. It should be a small kind of SOA. So we discuss about ->WS ->CORBA ->JNI Call In ->RMI Call In WS: So the easiest way and state of art is to use WebServices via the WS-Interface of the application server. But this mean to buy an WASV for every customer. The benefit is support through CPWR but the disadvantage are the cost and your are not able to influence the wasv. Print files redirection issueAuthor: tanya@fenyx.nl (Kittycat) Dear All, I am working at a customers' site, where files are being created, printed and redirected via the assignmentfile settings. The problem we currently have is related to a combination of these three things. On Unix. Redirection normally works like a charm, except .. when creating files via e.g. the 'filedump' Proc statement ('Export Repository Objects' is also a good example). I know that this behavior has been true for many years. The error usually is something like "ERROR=-4;MNEM=;DESCRIPTION=Table or file open failure;COMPONENT=...". The underlying problem is a conflict between the directory-path as specified in the Proc statement and the redirection as specified in the assignmentfile. The workaround could be 'inclusion/exclusion' or 'explicit inclusion' in the assignmentfile.   And this is where the weirdness begins. Imagine the following situations:   Situation 1 [FILES] *.

Version 8 Slower Than Version7Author: cdouglass@siriussoftware.com.au (Colin) Hello Everyone, I am currently converting our application from version 7 to version 8. To test the conversion I have set up a database that both systems access and then running the same components to test both the speed and accuracy of the v8 system. I have found that the v8 system can take up to 7 times longer to run the same component using the same data. The data is the same - because its the same database - so its not a bad or missing index. Its running on the same machine - so that's not it. I have tried the v8 system with both the U3.0 and U4.0 drivers with no difference The slowdown occurs in the proc_profiling counter DBMSTIME. V7 takes 12 (I assume MS) whilst V8 takes 80 for the same process. Windows 2003 Server V7 is 7.2.06 V8 is 8.4.05 Microsoft SQL Server 2000

Uniface 10 Web Edition - how to access the distribution Author: adrian.gosbell@synapse-i.jp (Adrian Gosbell) If you are an existing Uniface customer, the recommended (and quicker) way to get your hands on the product is via your account manager/sales rep, who will then arrange for the link to be made available. The registration page which is behind the banners on Uniface.com and Uniface.info is targeting new customers, if existing customers want to take this route to request Uniface 10, it will take longer to get access because it will still be referred to our account manager to manage.  If you do not know who your account manager is, then take the banner/registration page and we'll make the connections internally.

I found very little info so far but it seems there is a Sybase connector option "mapping". The document doesn't tell which Connector version supports this options?   mapping Map the I8 packing code to the bigint Sybase data type. usys$syb_params mapping 1 Arguments 1—map the I8 packing code to the bigint data type. Any other value has no meaning, and the default mapping is used. By default, the I8 packing code is mapped to the float data type.   But even if I8 packing code is mapped to float by default it should work, shouldn't it? Any help is very approciated! Zoltan

resizing the IDEAuthor: ulrichmerkel@web.de (ulrich-merkel) it looks like the IDE always (in MAXIMIZE as well as in NORMAL) eats up the complete screen. is there a way to resize it so I see some other document (like the helpfile with the tutorial)  as well?   update: In the meantime I found a way to chance the mouse cursor to the resizing one   but is the initial size of the screen so wide that it occupies the whole screen ?
