I performed some tests with a MySql database of VirtueMart (a rather popular freeware e-commerce solution) of one of our customers.
The database release is a bit old and the ODBC drivers installed on the server are version 3.51; the current release of MySql is 8.0.12 but the previous version was called 5.7.20 (where are the versions 6 and 7 ???).
I implemented a small application with Uniface 9.7.04 with which I updated and inserted some records in a table of VirtueMart and I must admit that basically I didn't have any particular problems.
The most important problem at this point is that Uniface does not have a 'Load definitions' utility for MySql as there are for other supported databases for which it becomes difficult to manually insert entities, fields, keys, indices, relationships into a conceptual model.
One suggestion I can give is to get the scripts to construct the tables from the MySql database using one of the different programs available for database management.
The scripts must be 'translated' into Oracle scripts and used to create the tables in an oracle database.
At this point I can use the 'Load Definitions' utility for Oracle to get the structure of the entities into a conceptual model.
