Normally a new Windows release is verified within three months after it has gone GA. So if everything goes according to plan then my guess is that Uniface 9.6 should be supported on Windows 10 (roughly) by end of September. And the good news is that you don't have to worry that Uniface will stop working when the users install Windows 10 (by accident). Windows 10 is actually identified by Uniface as Windows 8 - at least the Uniface 9 releases that support Windows 8. I'm currently not sure if this has to do with the efforts by Microsoft to ensure that existing Software will run without any problems on the new Windows release or if there's a "problem" with the platform check Uniface is using. It is, however, very well possible that future Uniface releases (or patch level for version 9.6) will identify Windows 10 "correctly" (meaning that a different license feature might be required). Bottom line is that Uniface 9.6 will probably work on Windows 10 when it's released, but it's not (yet) supported (until an official statement is given by the labs and the product has been updated accordingly). Sorry, I just realized that my calculation above was based on a release date by end of June, but it's of course end of July - as Iain mentioned in his initial post. So this means that Uniface 9.6 should be supported on Windows 10 (roughly) by end of October. My apologies for the confusion. Daniel

On the U9.7 PAM Windows10 is an officially supported platform...but U9.7 is not yet declared retrocompatible to U9.6...it will probably be beginning 2016. Knowing we can very probably execute a Uniface application on W10 in a configuration where it is supporting W8.1...As of today we were asked about official Uniface support of Windows10 for the U9.6 codeline. I've searched in uniface.info for "W10" as well as "Windows10" as well as "Windows 10" finding only this thread... Am I missing something? Gianni

The current plans are to support Windows 10 with Uniface 9.6.08 (Service Pack MX07). The mentioned Service Pack should be released around December 17, 2015 and the version 9.6.08 distribution (e-dist) a couple of weeks later. Please note that this still might be subject to change.  If you want to search forum posts then you need to go to the forums first and then use "Advanced Search" (e.g. use "Match phrase" and search for "Windows 10"). The search icon in the "menu bar" (of the site) only seems to search the Blogs.

I'm not aware of such a "limitation". There should be no problem migrating applications from earlier Uniface 9 versions to version 9.7. Is it maybe possible that this was said in the context of Uniface 10? Hope this helps. Daniel

Gianni, don't know where that came from? (Product updates were not part of the train the trainer session in October).  But to be clear, it is possible and supported to move from Uniface 9.6 to Uniface 9.7.01. There is no requirement to wait for a later update release of Uniface 9.7.

Gianni, don't know where that came from? (Product updates were not part of the train the trainer session in October).  But to be clear, it is possible and supported to move from Uniface 9.6 to Uniface 9.7.01. There is no requirement to wait for a later update release of Uniface 9.7.

A few months down the line, this only seems to be the case for consumer versions of Windows 7 and 8.  Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8 Enterprise, Windows 8.1 Enterprise, Windows RT and Windows RT 8.1 will not get the free upgrade, so no prompting in office environments, I suppose.
