Thanks to Arjun at Homeserve USA for his persistence on exploring this option in the CorVu Data Server Manager Knowledge Library. Previously I had only used virtual tables to achieve the same capability. In the Knowledge library (KL) you can create multiple Enterprise relationship diagrams (ERDs) containing your selected tables, and visualise the joins between them. The obvious temptation is to create additional ERDs for each reporting requirement and change the joins as needed. HOWEVER the catch is that changing the join in one ERD will impact the join in all other ERDs!! If I remove a link between two tables, it will remove it from all other ERDs, or if I edit a link to be an outer join it changes all occurrences of that link in all ERDs. This is a major problem which is sometimes not discovered until query designs have been committed. My client has Attachmate Extra! Enterprise.  I'm writing a program in Extra to screen-scrape a bunch of data from a database that apparently doesn't have an API I can get at.  I've found some documentation on the Extra! object model that apparently is close enough to allow me to make progress (so far), but nothing yet on Attachmate's version of the Visual Basic language, so I'm having to find by experimentation how it differs from VBA and VBScript.  (For example, I gather that I can write Subs and Functions but only if they appear before the main routine, not after.  I think it will not support user-defined classes, and the ReDim command doesn't seem to work.  I can't define an array with more than 9999 rows.  And so on.)When working with Excel, it can take forever to populate thousands of cells one at a time; but populating an array and then pouring the array into an Excel range is almost instant.  The usual command, once I have the data in an array,

I am trying to compare 2 ISAM [RM/COBOL] files as below :a. 2 version of same RM/COBOL [ISAM] file. [Say file1 and file2]b. Trying to compare using Cobol program.c. Each file around 41M records. and record length is about 500 Bytes [FB]d. Compare program is taking about 1 hours and 40 mins.e. Recovered each file then try to compile files. Still around  same result.f. I copied file1 to file1new and file2 to file2new [RM/COBOL file - ISAM]. g. Tried to compare file1new and file2 new. Compare program took 7 mins.Is it possible to rebuilt file1 and file2 so that 7 mins performance could be obtained ? Hi,I recently upgraded my HD and copied my entire old one to the new one. since then i'm unable to lunch Visual Cobol for Eclipse. Hi Unifacers,I have developed, tested and ready my dedicated form to drive customize testing actions for any component.Now, still in U9 for time being later on in U10, I need to have it starting up as default any time a developer ask to test while modifying ANY component.Unfortunately I was NOT able to define as persistent into "Editor Setup" the "Test component selection" value to "Other": "TEST_FROM_IDF", which is the name of my custom test component driver. Every time a developer exit from current session values defined in those red fields are lost.I've digged into System and User Preferences without finding a solution.Is there a way to defined a specific default for the "Test component selection" field and having it as persistent value any time a new session is started?Thanks in advance for any tips or trick...Regards,Gianni

Hello there, I need your expert advise please. I am using Universe 11.2.5. I have a report with 83 columns. For each transaction, some of the columns might have a data more than 1000 characters. I try to limit to a maximum of 1000 characters per column . I use the following command:      FOR X = 1 TO 83              IF LEN(COL<X>)  >  1000  THEN                      PRT.RECORD :=  "," : COL<X>[1,1000] This LEN command did not work. in the PRT.RECORD, the content from COL<X>[1,1000] was more than 1000 characters. I also tried the LEFT command.      PRT.RECORD := "," : LEFT(COL<X>,1000) This LEFT command did not work as well. in the PRT.RECORD, the content from LEFT(COL<X>,1000) was more than 1000 characters. Is there any other command to be used for setting a maximum character. Your advise would be most appreciated. I would like to unit test a program that is several layers deep in a large monolithic application.  The program undergoing change and requiring testing has a lengthy list of fields that needs to be supplied via its Linkage Section.  Is there a way I capture the contents of storage during execution, perhaps in debug mode, so I can more easily use these values in my unit test?#UnitTest

I am trying to clarify the upgrade process as some of the documentation I have read some documentation that says to do a fresh install with new drives and that the installer will wipe out existing partitions.  I have read other bits that indicate that you can upgrade with data in place.  I would like to upgrade with data in place (with a good backup of course) but before I destroy something I just want to be sure.  Any success stories appreciated. Hi all, Sorry if this question has been previously asked answered, but I didn't see how to search for a topic. "Server" is Windows 10 running Universe 11. "Workstation" is Windows 10 running various apps and telnets into UniVerse. It has a printer on a USB port and is shared. Server connects properly to the printer and successfully prints a test page. I've checked all the share permissions, and among many others, "everyone" has print and manage privileges. Yet, when I do a SETPTR ,,,[etc] AT \\ENVYW10,HPLJ or AT \\10.1.253.60HPLJ and try to print, I get  Access is denied. Program "BLOCK.PRINT": pc = 2A0, StartDocPrinter failed with error 5 I've tried the usual rebooting, etc, On my old server I seem to recall an entry in the &DEVICE& file, but I am told this is not necessary. Also, the extensible admin utility won't allow the definition of a printer, only a tape drive. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Hello,after migration to Uniface 10 last week, we have discovered, that in a special case the store/complete does not fire the write trigger as it does in Uniface 9.The form that does not store the data is a containded form in a TABEX in a parent form.The write trigger is only activated when data in the form is entered by keyboard.If the data is only changed by proccode the write trigger is not activated.Values Returned by store in $statusValueMeaning1No data was stored because no modifications were made to the data since the last retrieve or store statement.
